Love Is…
“Love is patient, love is kind.” — 1 Corinthians 13:4
Those words are familiar. Living them takes practice.
It’s easy to think of love in its biggest moments: a wedding day, an anniversary, a long-awaited reunion. Those moments matter. But most of a relationship is lived on ordinary days, when one person is tired, plans change, or a conversation doesn’t go quite right.
That’s where patience becomes love. It gives someone time to finish a thought. It listens before answering. It remembers that a difficult moment does not define the person you love.
Kindness is love, too. It’s a warm welcome after time apart. A thoughtful message during the day. A gentle word when you could have spoken sharply. These choices may seem small, but they help someone feel valued and safe with you.
Marcia and I know how good it feels to be together again after being apart. A reunion makes you appreciate the person you missed. It can also remind you to carry that appreciation into the days that follow, when life settles back into its usual rhythm.
First Corinthians 13 describes love with more than a feeling. It gives us something to practice. None of us will be patient and kind in every moment. We can apologize when we fall short, begin again, and keep choosing how we care for each other.
Who could use a little more patience or kindness from you today? One loving choice can create a ripple that reaches further than you think.
